Balthisar Tidy 3.0.0 Released!

Balthisar Tidy and Balthisar Tidy for Work version 3.0.0 are major updates that bring awesome, new features to your favorite tidying application, and they’re live in the Mac App Store and on our website right now.

You can view the full changelog of course, but the big news is the massively improved text editor, and everything that it brings along with it. This screenshot tells a large part of the story:

All-docpart-source

Working with the Source HTML and Tidy HTML are even easier with syntax highlighting, a feature that has been long wanted on Balthisar Tidy. If you are one of the folks who’ve not long wanted this feature, don’t despair; it’s easy to turn on and off.

Working with Tidy Messages become much easier, too. Every line of your Source HTML with an error or a warning will be plainly visible with and icon marked in the line number gutter. Of course, you have to make sure the gutter is turned on in order to see them! Clicking a message icon clearly enumerates all of the faults with that line and gives you a chance to correct them right in the source if you want to. And if your screen space is limited, this gives you the opportunity to turn off the Tidy Messages completely while still having access to the errors.

In addition to the aesthetic improvements made by the new editor, powerful new editing features make Balthisar Tidy a world class text editor in its own right. Automatic closing braces, block indent, and more make you more effective when editing your source.

Balthisar Tidy for Work

All of the changes for Balthisar Tidy apply to this low-cost, paid upgrade, too, but our loyal Balthisar Tidy for Work users gain all of these cool, added features on top of those.

With Balthisar Tidy for Work you gain the ability to control all of the colors that are used in the new syntax highlighting feature, as well as the ability to change all of the text editor colors, as well as the use of themes to take control over all of this.

We've finally given AppleScript a little bit of love, too. We’ve added some developer-centric properties to Balthisar Tidy for Work, but the real excitement is the addition of an AppleScript application suite to the System Services helper application “Balthisar Tidy Service Helper.” This headless application normally only handles System Services, but now it offers a headless Tidying service via AppleScript, too. Your AppleScripts can target this application and Tidy text quickly without opening the full Balthisar Tidy for Work application.

Finally we’ve included a disk image with sample AppleScripts — including scripts for BBEdit and TextWrangler — that show you how to effectively use AppleScript with Balthisar Tidy for Work.

Mac OS X 10.10 Required

In order to move forward adopting the latest and greatest Mac OS X technologies, we’ve had to drop support for Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9. For those very few users still on these operating systems we offer our deepest apologies, and hope that the current Balthisar Tidy that you know and love will continue to make you happy until you upgrade your Mac OS X version. And of course previous versions of Balthisar Tidy and Balthisar Tidy for Work for these older systems are still available on our website and in the Mac App Store.
