Balthisar Tidy 2.1.3 released!

Balthisar Tidy 2.1.3 is released and available now in its usual three versions.

If you’re using any of the App Store versions already, you can update from the App Store application manually if you’re not set up to receive updates automatically.

If you’re using the non-App Store version of Balthisar Tidy, you will be notified that the update is available. If you’ve turned off notifications, you can update manually in the Balthisar Tidy application main menu.

For details of all changes, checkout the change log. The two big changes are described below.

Introducing Services

Balthisar Tidy now reintroduces Tidy’ing via System Services back to Mac OS X, using the full capabilities of Balthisar Tidy and its modern HTML5 Tidy engine.

Tidy selection using Balthisar Tidy
Select some text in the application of your choice. Choose this Service. Balthisar Tidy will open a new, untitled document with your selected text.
Tidy selection in new Balthisar Tidy document
(Mac OS X 10.9 and above) Select some text in the application of your choice. Choose this Service. Your selected text will be replaced with the Tidy’d version using the settings in Balthisar Tidy’s Preferences. (Hint: consult the show-body-only setting if you don’t get the result you expect.)

Introducing Action Extensions

Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) brings Extensions to Mac OS X, and now Balthisar Tidy brings its Tidy’ing goodness to you in the form of a new Action Extension.

Tidy with Balthisar Tidy
Select some text in an application that supports Extensions, and then use the Extension drop-down menu provided by Mac OS X. This action extension will then Tidy the selected text using the Preferences from Balthisar Tidy. (Hint: consult the show-body-only setting if you don’t get the result you expect.)

Note that unlike System Services — which nearly every Mac OS X application supports — Yosemite applications have to be made to support Extensions. If you would like to try out the Tidy with Balthisar Tidy Extension you can see it work in Mail or TextEdit.

Additional Notes

There have also been some other bug fixes and updates. Have a look at the change log for many more details.
