Balthisar Tidy and Balthisar Tidy for Work version 3.0.0 are major updates that bring awesome, new features to your favorite tidying application, and they've been submitted to the App Store for review today.
Full details including a change log will be available on balthisar.com as soon as they’re released, but for now here’s a sneak peek. And if you’re clever enough to find our github repository, you can have a closer look right now.
Mac OS X 10.10 Required
In order to move forward adopting the latest and greatest Mac OS X technologies, we’ve had to drop support for Mac OS X 10.8 and 10.9. For those very few users still on these operating systems we offer our deepest apologies, and hope that the current Balthisar Tidy that you know and love will continue to make you happy until you upgrade your Mac OS X version.
The biggest difference you’ll notice in Balthisar Tidy is its beautiful syntax highlighting courtesy of the current, modern fork of the classic text editor Fragaria (with significant contributions to this modern fork by yours truly). In addition to syntax highlighting Fragaria offers a lot of modern text editor features to Balthisar Tidy, making Balthisar Tidy a full-featured, powerful text editor in its own right.
Another exciting feature is the presentation of Tidy Messages directly within the Source HTML editor. Any line that produces a message (such as an error) will be highlighted with an icon in the line number gutter. Clicking this icon provides a list of everything wrong with that line.
Those of you that use our source code to make your own versions of Balthisar Tidy and/or wish to contribute to its progress will note a lot of structural source code changes that simplify how Balthisar Tidy is built and will make future features that much simpler to implement.
Balthisar Tidy for Work
All of the changes for Balthisar Tidy apply to this low-cost, paid upgrade, too, but our loyal Balthisar Tidy for Work users gain all of these cool, added features on top of those.
With Balthisar Tidy for Work you gain the ability to control all of the colors that are used in the new syntax highlighting feature, as well as the ability to change all of the text editor colors, as well as the use of themes to take control over all of this.
We've finally given AppleScript a little bit of love, too. We’ve added some developer-centric properties to Balthisar Tidy for Work, but the real excitement is the addition of an AppleScript application suite to the System Services helper application “Balthisar Tidy Service Helper.” This headless application normally only handles System Services, but now it offers a headless Tidying service via AppleScript, too. Your AppleScripts can target this application and Tidy text quickly without opening the full Balthisar Tidy for Work application.
Finally we’ve included a disk image with sample AppleScripts — including scripts for BBEdit and TextWranger — that show you how to effectively use AppleScript with Balthisar Tidy for Work.
Stay tuned to balthisar.com! As soon as version 3.0.0 is live in the App Store, full details will be available right here!
